Industry is one of the largest consumers of energy worldwide and a critical sector for achieving sustainable energy transitions. Improving industrial energy efficiency and aligning policies with long-term climate and development goals are essential for reducing emissions, lowering costs, and enhancing competitiveness in emerging economies. Asia, with its rapidly growing industries, faces both significant challenges and unique opportunities in this area.
This webinar will examine the evolution of industrial energy policies and practices in two key countries of the region. Dr. Shyamasree Dasgupta, Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi, will discuss India’s industrial energy policies and their impacts on sustainable energy use. Dr. Firuz Ahamed Nahid, Postdoctoral Researcher at the SMARTS Center, Asian Institute of Technology, will reflect on Bangladesh’s journey toward industrial energy efficiency, assessing achievements, challenges, and opportunities for the future. Together, the session will provide comparative insights on industrial energy transitions in South Asia, offering valuable lessons for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners.
