Energy efficiency and demand response play a critical role in reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Evaluation, measurement, and verification (EM&V) will play an important role for improving energy efficiency and demand response programs and policies. EM&V of energy-efficiency programs has a rich and extensive history in the USA, dating back to the late 1970s, and this experience has transferred to Europe and the Asia Pacific Region. Today, EM&V is a mature, data-driven discipline, anchored by standardized protocols and accelerating rapidly with the adoption of digital technologies.
